A Quick Update – Changes Are Here & Coming!

May 17th, 2010

Hello All,

It has been a while since I have posted an entry here – I have been completing several projects and new venutres, met with many brides and grooms, and have DJ’d a few weddings along the way!

As many of my readers and clients may know, as of 2010, my company changed to an LLC under the name of Tony Schwartz Productions, LLC – the umbrella company of my entertainment venture. I have a better design and vision of what I want my entertainment company to be known for – Tony Schwartz Weddings is still the wedding division – and I have been frantically working to create about six new website for each venture – most which are close to completion.

One of these websites is my new company blog – which will replace this blog. Featuring not only giglogs, but also industry news and a section called “The Positive Vibes”. This blog will be informative but also have a personal touch – something I wanted to incoporate due to the personal aspect of this business. Just as I want to get to know my clients, I want them to get to know me – and “The Positive Vibes” will be the section that will accomplish that goal.

From this post forward, all giglogs and entries can be found on that website – http://www.tonyschwartzproductions.com/blog – this blog will soon be removed – but not before the following announcement:

I will be redesigning my wedding website.

Yes, it’s probably the fourth time in two years – but I have a distinct vision – and the current website was very close to that vision – but not quite there. I will soon be building that website and have no timeline to when it will be complete. But it will be complete and online before 2011.

So that’s all for now – it’s time to get back to planning for 30 quality weddings this summer – it’s going to be a lot of fun – celebrate life!

-Tony

WeddingWire’s Bride Choice Badge

February 2nd, 2010

Here it is!

2010 Bride's Choice Awards - Wedding Photographers, Wedding Cakes, Wedding Venues & More
Weddings, Wedding Planning, Wedding Websites, Wedding Checklists

Well, to be perfectly honest with you – every vendor on WeddingWire.com pretty much won this “award” – but I do like WeddingWire.com as a resource for brides and grooms.  The number one reason I like it?  The reviews are real, from real brides, and they are very honest.  If someone posts a bad revew, and even if a vendor wants to dispute it, it is still made public and isn’t deleted.  WeddingWire will not delete a review unless its proven untrue – for example, I had two reviews once for clients I never had nor wedding I never performed at, so they were removed – but every other review is from my real clients – and they are real thoughts and opinions.

Tacoma Dome Wedding Expo is Tomorrow!

January 1st, 2010

I will be at booth #608 for the Tacoma Dome Wedding Expo hosted by BridesClub.com tomorrow and Sunday! Come by and see our mind-blowing booth!

As of last count, there were about seven DJ companies hosting booths – so here are a few tips to keep in mind as you visit them all!

1) Wedding Expos are a way to display and exemplify the type and level of service you will get from each vendor. Look at the DJs booth -does it seem generic or does it bring a “WOW” factor? Quality wedding entertainment will leave your guests with a “WOW” – so find a booth and a company that excites you!

2) The P Word – Do not even worry about asking “What is your price?” Why? Because you will have about five minutes to talk to each vendor – and five minutes will not convey all aspects and value that that vendor provides. Do your homework – figure out the most important questions you want to know answers to – perhaps, “How will you make my entertainment special?”

3) Fun – Have lots of it! There is no need to book right then and there – you are just surveying what is really out there! Consider the expo a way to figure out what is a huge priority in your wedding budget and plans – and then go from there!

See you at the show!

An Article I Came Across for “Hiring A Wedding DJ”

December 2nd, 2009

The following article was written by James L Kirkland.  What are your thoughts on it?

Your wedding is the most important day of your life, and if you want it to be special you need to make some plans. You will want to get the perfect cake, get a great venue, and get a wonderful groom of course. Many times, however, we forget to get great music until the last minute. The DJ at your wedding can be the difference between the perfect wedding ceremony, and the one from terrible moment. That said, here are some tips for securing a great DJ for your wedding party.

Do not wait until the last minute to secure a DJ. This is the absolute, number one, most important tip of all. Waiting until the last minute can force you to make a rash decision. That can be a huge mistake when it comes to your music. I once saw a wedding where the DJ accidentally played “Play That Funky Music White Boy” just as the bride was coming down the aisle. Needless to say, this was not the selection she had chosen. Do not wait to select your DJ.

Inquire about the back up plan. DJ’s are notorious for having no back up plan, and this is unacceptable for a wedding. If your selected DJ is not available due to illness, or other emergencies, who will be taking his place? Once you find this out, insist on interviewing them as well to be sure they also meet your standards. Do not just take the DJ’s word on it. Set up an extra meeting.

Get every single detail that is a must in writing. The DJ will have already printed contracts that he will present to you. These are set up to cover the DJ’s back and not yours. If you want to be certain that you will get everything you are paying for, then make sure that it is in writing. Want to be sure to hear “Always and Forever” at least three times? Put it in the contract. Want to have Karaoke available at the reception? Contract. Etc… This is vital if you want to ensure your wedding music is as it should be.

Ask for references and check them. This is an absolute must, and the references should be weddings. If they can not give you references that are from weddings, then you need to move on. This is a warning sign that they are not a wedding DJ. When you check the references, make sure that they are not related or friends with the DJ. Let the DJ know that you are wanting strangers for references.

Finally, do not go cheap for your wedding DJ. This is the single biggest mistake made by brides across the nation. The music is more important than the flowers, the cake, or even the food at the wedding. They will set the mood and the tone of the wedding, and if you go cheap, you will pay for it in a different way. Do not tighten the purse strings for a DJ. Spend a little money, and get a great DJ when it comes to your most special day.

Personally, I find the comment about putting “Always and Forever” in your contract a little excessive, but knowing how so many amateurs call themselves professional and cast a poor image on the wedding DJ industry – I understand why he wrote that particular paragraph.
